2. The Trustworthiness of Beards: This fantastic graph outlines an important tool that might one day save your life – the safety levels of facial hair.

3. Magic CMYK Sewing Machine: How could I NOT post about this – not only can this fancy little machine custom match color from fabric or paper and then create thread in that color by applying a CMYK mixture to white thread, but it’s color palette is close to this blog’s heart <3.

The Garden of Cosmic Speculation

1. The Garden of Cosmic Speculation: This sounds so much like a storybook: a wealthy couple in Scotland create a wonderland garden, celebrating math and science. Once a year, the Garden of Speculation opens it’s door to visitors. Very surreal and science-y.

2. How to make dresses without any real talent or patterns: Inept with a sewing machine? Never fear – Eline shows you how simple the art of clothing making can be.

“Dew-Covered Ladybug”

1. Beautiful Macro-Photography: Taking remarkable photographs of very small things is an art in itself. Sadly, I don’t understand a thing on this site. Fortunately, a picture is worth a thousand words.

2. Disappearing Pool: Not only is this pool climate-friendly (uses radiant heat to warm itself), but it VANISHES into the floor. I want one please.

3. KiraKira Waypoints: This lovely, dynamic flash animation adjusts and moves with user interaction. A lovely, fluid and inspiring piece of work.

“Lars Andersson Fall/Winter 2010 Collection (Image courtesy of Refinery 29)

1. Lars Andersson: O MY GOD. Do you see these coats!? Andersson has finally understood the true design aesthetic: to dress like a. Batman or b. A Demon Geisha, in such a way that one looks fabulous and in no way capable of being committed to a mental hospital in the process. BRAVO.

2. Symphony of Science: I’ve posted about this before, but John Boswell’s continuing project to mix science documentary clips into stunning audial and visual works of art is just too fantastic not to bring up again. I like it so much that the tune, “A Glorious Dawn” is my ringtone. Just too gorgeous.

3. Lo Tho I Walk Through The Silicon Valley…: A treat for the Mac-lovers. I love things that are nerdy AND blasphemous at the same time.

USA Network’s 2010 Character Approved Awards

February 25, 2010 In the midst of a messy wintry mix pelting Manhattan, industry professionals and celebrities dashed nimbly from their cars and taxis into the inviting arms of the IAC Building, the location playing host to the second annual USA Network’s Character Approved Awards. “Minnie Mouse” via Doe Deere

1. Minnie Mouse Makeup Tutorial: I have been a long time fan of Doe Deere’s makeup tutorials, but this Minnie Mouse one takes the cake. Cuteness!

2. IE6 Funeral: I know this isn’t polite to say about the deceased, but I have to be honest – he was crotchety, cruel, and incredibly corrupt. I’m glad he’s dead. They can’t dig a hole deep enough, IMO.

3. Magical Flowers: A rare Buddhist flower that blooms once every 3,000 years? Growing under your washing machine? That’s not news – THAT is the plot of a kung-fu movie.

2. How They Became…The Flaming Lips: The Flaming Lips explain the origins of their band name, and some of their favorite/most hated band names out there. (PS: I am tingling with anticipation about seeing them live next month, so prepare to be inundated by Flaming Lips stuff from me.)

3. Top 10 Plants for Removing Indoor Toxins: As if I didn’t have enough to worry about, now I have to be concerned about INDOOR POLLUTION in my house. Ick. Fortunately, there are some plants that can assist me in cleaning my air, so I don’t have to go around my domicile with one of those creepy face masks.

3. eBay to Launch “Fashion Vault”: eBay is jumping on board the fashion flash sale train, and plans to launch a site similar to Gilt Group in March, as well as create more “fixed price” listings – I imagine to compete with Etsy. I guess they’re finally getting the credo of the internet: change or die!
