It seems that across the board, there has been a resurgence in DIY, as we are very much living in a world of ‘Do it Yourself’ everything; ranging from creating or updating or garments’ silhouettes and decorative details to showcasing our own versions of runway looks, virtually styling with tools like Polyvore, tackling self-photography, and of course self-publishing via our blog platforms. We reign supreme in the DIY world on a daily basis, and I only see this trend gaining momentum. The roundup of this week’s links is definitely an indication, directly and indirectly, of the incredibly creative, innovative, persevering, motivated folks that are part of the new DIY frontier, and of course, IFB!
As expected, there was a fabulous round-up of links in the forum as well, all worthy of your eyeballs!

I feel my design style is defined by lots of color (ie, this site). It’s just the way my mind works – I can keenly put lots of colors together successfully. Contrarily, I feel the knack of subtle hue changes is a style I’ve had to put much more love into learning, and to this day I am often enamored by designs I see that can implement so much detail in only one color, as it’s something so out of my realm.
Suffice to say, the idea of monochromatic personal style simply mystifies me.

The idea of living your life in one color palette is one I find fascinating and amazing, mostly because it is the furthest direction from my own style. The amount of dedication and care it takes is awe-inspiring, and the results breathtaking.
If you could live your life in one color, what would it be? Why?

I was taken aback when going through the submissions this week– there were so many powerful, strong, opinionated pieces that I felt really taken aback. With overwhelming positivity or negativity, the fashion community is finding it’s voice– and making themselves heard!
The fashion community is great at sharing the voice of others, and we’ve got several fabulous interviews to prove it. From Derek Lam at Poetic & Chic and White Rabbit’s interview with Irish woman Sinead Doyle (along with my own interview with Amelia Arsenic at Dramatis Personae), there are voices for everyone. We’ve got bloggers ranting on the lack of premium denim in plus-sizes at Denim Debutante (hell yeah!), and some showcasing inspirational figures like KOOS (at M.I.S.S.), Philip Crangi (at Eternal Masquerade), and Maria Felix (at Jewelry Whore).
There were so, so many great links this week, it really was hard to narrow it down to 2o. Check out the full listing of Links à la Mode here.

1. Lars Andersson: O MY GOD. Do you see these coats!? Andersson has finally understood the true design aesthetic: to dress like a. Batman or b. A Demon Geisha, in such a way that one looks fabulous and in no way capable of being committed to a mental hospital in the process. BRAVO.
2. Symphony of Science: I’ve posted about this before, but John Boswell’s continuing project to mix science documentary clips into stunning audial and visual works of art is just too fantastic not to bring up again. I like it so much that the tune, “A Glorious Dawn” is my ringtone. Just too gorgeous.
3. Lo Tho I Walk Through The Silicon Valley…: A treat for the Mac-lovers. I love things that are nerdy AND blasphemous at the same time.

1. Put a spin on the gladiator sandal style by tying ribbons up your legs.
2. In lieu of globes or gnomes, place empty perfume bottles in your garden for romantic decoration.
3. Send flowers to your mom. Just because.

You know what I just discovered recently? Burlington Coat Factory, for things that are not coats. I know, I just rocked your world. Apparently they have things OTHER than coats! And some of those things are nice, and extremely affordable. Like this top, and the outfit I wore in my engagement photos. Those jeans were TWENTY DOLLARS. And a hobo wasn’t even living in them! That, my friends, is a bargain.

I am a bit behind in posting these outfits - as you can see by the fact I work this junk in NOVEMBER. What can I say, it’s been busy around here. But really, fashion doesn’t expire, does it? You won’t judge me, will you, my poppets? Good. Now, about this outfit…

The brainchild of NYC-based designer, Cody Ross, Priestess NYC is a collection that sparkles, pops and gleams upon the wearer. Consisting of bright iridescent activewear-inspired dresses, tunics, slacks and jackets, Priestess combines bright colors with bold, neon prints for a look that is both 80’s-retro and hyper-futuristic. The quirky silk prints are also buzz-worthy: whimsically-rendered sperm, weaponry, piranha and blowfish are just a few of the motifs. However, all the glitz aside, the foundational shapes are extremely comfortable and functional - making for a garment that will dazzle but remain utilitarian enough for daily wear.
